Senator Barack Obama today held a fundraiser with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in Washington, D.C. at the Mayflower Hotel.
Speakers included Representative Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) and Representative Mike Honda (D-California), who introduced Senator Obama. Obama discussed issues of concern to AAPI voters, including immigration, health care initiatives and federal support for minority-owned businesses.
Obama spoke to his personal connection to the AAPI community, given that his sister is half Indonesian, and his brother-in-law is Chinese Canadian. "Being here is especially meaningful to me because I consider myself to be an honorary AAPI member, and I think I've got some pretty good credentials," Obama noted.
