Washington, D.C. The Asian American Action Fund (AAA-Fund) is pleased to announce that Gautam Dutta recently became Executive Director, and Marybelle Ang, Gloria Caoile, Junelle Cavero, Dian Herrman, Mark Keam, and Howard Moon recently joined the Executive Board.
All have enjoyed distinguished careers in public service, serving as leaders in Asian Pacific American (APA) and civil rights organizations, all levels of government, and the Democratic Party. Their experiences will help promote the AAA-Fund's goal of increasing the voice of the APA community in local, state, and federal government.
Mr. Dutta replaces former Executive Director Alex Nguyen, who recently became an assistant U.S. attorney in Philadelphia after working at a private law firm in Washington, D.C. Mr. Dutta has extensive government and public interest experience. He has served as Tax Counsel to California State Controller John Chiang and clerked for a federal judge. Among his service on numerous boards and commissions, he has served on the board of the South Asian Bar Association of Southern California and was Vice Chair of the District of Columbia's Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs. He is currently Deputy Director of the Political Reform Program at the New America Foundation.
Ms. Ang is Vice President of the Los Angeles chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans. She currently works as a Regulatory Manager at Southern California Edison. Ms. Caoile, who served the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) for 30 years, is a founding member of the Asian Pacific American Women Leadership Institute and has served on the boards of several civil rights groups, including the Filipino American Civil Rights Advocates. She is also president of the National Filam Democrat PAC, an affiliate of the AAA-Fund.
Ms. Cavero, the Business Development and Marketing Manager for the Government Affairs Department at McKenna Long and Aldridge, currently serves as the D.C. State Chair for the National Association of Filipino American Associations. Ms. Herrman is AFSCME's strategic communications advisor and previously served as deputy communications director for the Maryland Democratic Party.
Mr. Keam is currently working on the federal government relations staff for a Fortune 50 corporation. He joined the company following a long tenure with the federal government, in both the executive and legislative branches. Mr. Moon, now Director of Global Government Affairs at Amgen, recently served as Senior Policy Advisor and Floor Assistant to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He also worked for the late Congressman Robert Matsui (D-CA), the former chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
The AAA-Fund is a national Democratic political organization whose goal is to increase the voice of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) in local, state and federal government, by encouraging AAPIs to volunteer on campaigns, raise money for candidates, and run for political office.
