Los Angeles, CA. The Asian American Action Fund announced that it will hold a Presidential Candidates Forum in Los Angeles on Dec. 6, 2007, 7 pm. The Forum will feature top representatives from the Clinton, Obama, and Richardson campaigns. Following the Forum, all guests will be invited to vote in the AAA-Fund Presidential Straw Poll.
At the Forum, Board of Equalization Vice-Chair Judy Chu will represent Sen. Hillary Clinton; Former California Assembly Leader Wilma Chan will represent Sen. Barack Obama; and former Sen. Jim Webb campaign staffer S.R. Sidarth will represent Gov. Bill Richardson.
"We welcome this all-star cast to our Los Angeles Forum. We look forward to hearing them discuss issues critical to the 2008 Presidential race," said AAA-Fund Executive Director Gautam Dutta.
The Forum and Straw Poll will be held at the acclaimed East West Players Theater, Little Tokyo, 120 North Judge John Aiso Street, Los Angeles. Immediately before the Forum, AAA-Fund members and sponsors will be invited to join the speakers at a VIP reception.
Each speaker brings unique perspective to the Forum. Clinton speaker Judy Chu previously served as Chair of the California Assembly's Appropriations Committee. Obama speaker Wilma Chan is seeking to become the first Asian American woman to serve in the California State Senate. In 2006, Richardson speaker S.R. Sidarth shot a video in which former Sen. George Allen mocked Sidarth because of his skin color — galvanizing Democrats and Asian Americans to defeat Allen, elect Sen. Webb, and retake the U.S. Senate.
"Across the nation, Asian American leaders have stepped up to the plate and taken on key leadership roles. We are proud to showcase our community's formidable political talent," said AAA-Fund California Chair Marybelle C. Ang.
Attendance is by registration only, so please register now for this historic event.
The AAA-Fund is a national Democratic political organization whose goal is to increase the voice of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) in local, state and federal government, by encouraging AAPIs to volunteer on campaigns, raise money for candidates, and run for political office.
