Barve, Lee and Valderrama Win Primaries

WASHINGTON, D.C. / September 13, 2006 — Asian American Action Fund (AAA-Fund) endorsees Susan Lee, a member of the Maryland House of Delegates since 2002, and Kris Valderrama, a candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates, each won the right to represent the Democratic Party in the November election after victories in Maryland's September 12 primary. Maryland House Majority Leader Kumar Barve, a member of the AAA-Fund Honorary Board, also won the opportunity to represent the Democrats in the November 7 general election, with an impressive showing in the September 12 primary.

"We congratulate Kumar, Susan and Kris," said Erika L. Moritsugu, executive director of the AAA-Fund, "and extend them our best wishes for the general election. We are especially happy that Kris was able to break out of a large field of candidates for an open seat and, as a first time candidate, show that she has what it takes to represent the people of Maryland."

The AAA-Fund is a national Democratic political organization whose goal is to increase the voice of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in local, state and federal government, by encouraging APAs to volunteer on campaigns, raise money for candidates, and run for political office. For more on these and other AAA-Fund endorsees, please visit the AAA-Fund website's candidate page.
