WASHINGTON, D.C. / October 1, 2006 — The Board of the Asian American Action Fund (AAA-Fund) urged Asian Pacific Americans and all Americans to make sure they are registered to vote on November 7th.
"The political tide in this country is moving away from the GOP," said AAA-Fund Executive Director Erika Moritsugu, "but it will not help the Democrats unless voters are registered and get to the polls. If you are not yet registered to vote, be sure to do it soon."
Registrations must be RECEIVED by 10/7 in Rhode Island and South Carolina, 10/8 in Nevada, and 10/9 in Arizona, Alaska, Hawai'i, Louisiana, and Wyoming. Registrations must be POSTMARKED by 10/7 in Mississippi and Washington State, 10/8 in Tennessee and Utah, and 10/9 in Colorado.
After checking your state registration deadlines and making sure you yourself are registered, send emails to family and friends to make sure that they, too, are registered.
"This is also a good time to plan how you will be spending Election Day," said Gautam Dutta, a member of the AAA-Fund Board. "Plan to take Election Day as a holiday from your job and work at the polls as a poll watcher, pamphleteer, or driver for voters who need assistance getting to the polls. Call your local Democratic Party organization, the AAA-Fund endorsed candidates, or any candidate you support, and tell them you want to help. We can only win if we Get Out the Vote."
The AAA-Fund is a national Democratic political organization whose goal is to increase the voice of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in local, state and federal government, by encouraging APAs to volunteer on campaigns, raise money for candidates, and run for political office.
