Each month, we will feature one of our Sponsors, and highlight why they are supporting the AAA-Fund. Our Featured Sponsor this month is Sam Hsien-Cheng Chang, a senior partner in the well-known immigration firm Wasserman, Mancini & Chang in Washington, D.C.
Aside from writing articles and teaching on immigration law topics, Mr. Chang has served as a Chinese language school principal, General Counsel of the Asian American Voters' Coalition, and President of the U.S. Chinese Golf Association (USCGA), which sponsors tournaments and offers beginner clinics.
Q: Sam, why are you a major donor to the AAA-Fund?
A: I myself was born in Nanking, grew up in Taiwan, and received my schooling in Taiwan and the United States.
As an immigrant and as an immigration lawyer, I understand the importance of having legislators who will make laws that respect the rights of all Americans, no matter what their immigration status.
Q: Is there one particular aspect of our work that is important to you?
A:
I like the idea of educating ourselves about the campaign laws and practices that affect our communities. Since 1993, I have hosted "Today's World," a free call-in legal advice program on Cable Channel 16 in Montgomery County, Maryland, and I have heard from many people that this show gave them the insights and motivation to seek remedies for their legal problems. In the same way, this AAA-Fund website and your regular educational forums can convince Asian Americans to exercise their rights and participate in the political arena.
Q: Any thoughts you'd like to share with other potential sponsors?
A: Every dollar counts for a group like the AAA-Fund, because they are opening the door to a new generation of Asian Americans getting involved in politics. Give whatever you can afford, and join them when they host forums for up-and-coming political candidates. You will enjoy yourself!
