Our featured board member, David Namura, is the Manager of State Affairs for an Alexandria, VA based trade association that focuses on labor and employment issues. One of his primary responsibilities is representing his organization on workforce training and development issues. Also, David fosters organizational diversity through service on the Diversity Advisory Council.

In addition to his professional position and his role on the AAA-Fund board of Directors, David also serves on the executive board of the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans of Virginia (CAPAVA), whose mission is to foster civic participation of Asian Americans in Virginia.

Political Experience

David began his work in politics in the press office the Mayor of Denver. After leaving the Mayor's office, David worked as a legislative assistant in the Colorado General Assembly. His public policy experience continued after leaving the state legislature as a representative of the Colorado Student Association, advocating on behalf of higher education in the state.
 

After receiving the JACL's Mike M. Masaoka Congressional Fellowship, David moved to Washington D.C. where he served in the office of Senator Daniel K. Inouye (D-HI). Among other responsibilities in the Senator's office, David served as staff liaison to the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.

Campaign Experience

David served as the Field Director in the race for Colorado's 6th congressional district during the 2000 election cycle. In addition to this role, he worked on the state's coordinated campaign effort, which resulted in the Democratic takeover of the state senate.

David has spoken on the importance of political participation to groups of young APA's and has worked with a number of organizations both in Denver and the Washington D.C. area on campaign related issues.

Personal Details

David graduated from the University of Colorado, Denver with a B.A. in political science. He resides in Alexandria, VA.
